I'm have tried being a solo practitioner for about three months now, and even though I pretty much let my heart dictate my actions during my rituals it would still be nice to have someone to guide me and be with me during these wonderful occassions. After I graduate I should be moving back to New York City and I was wondering if anyone knew of authentic "covens" that would be willing to allow me to have a sit in or possibly even induction. Finding those who follow the same faith has been a struggle. Please help....
Always hoping

Whenever I do ituals I have come to beleive that the Goddess knows my heart, my motives, and intentions, so I beleive that I dont have to conform to anyone else's ritual structure unless I want to.
Some rituals I've done have caused me to feel light, others heavy, and others just OK, but I get a feeling that she is really listening and sometimes a slight feeling of excitement, and awakinging, is when I feel that I am doing it right. One time the candle flames turned red.
After I am done and the circle has been opened at the end of my rituals I find it a good idea to lay down on the ground with the palms touching the earth, for a few minutes to help me to ground. Then usualy I find it a good idea to drink at least a glass of water,to help me ground after the ritual, then we usually eat something, hence the post ritual meal.
I have found that the book Sriral Dance by Starhawk has been helpful. Another good source of help is ironoak.org. a wiccan chrich in Palm Bay Fl.
I prefer to do rituals with a group rather then by myself, I feel that it's more powerful, plus I love fellowshiping with others during the post ritual meal.
I would just jight a candle and send out energy for a group to find you, BUT!!! WHEN YOU DO WAIT until AFTER January 15th because Mercury is in retrograde until then.

trust me I definitely do listen to the inner voice. When I said I didn't know what to do ...I meant more on the structure of my ritual rather than the content of it. For instance casting my circle or grounding. How am I eve supposed to know completely if I'm doing it right? I mean, am I supposed to feel light? Heavy? How do I know I didn't loose my concentration mid ritual? You know what I mean?
I've read billions of books on the topics but it just isn't the same as a hands on experience I guess is what I'm trying to say. But there were a couple there that you mentioned that I have scrolled over in my quest. Perhaps I should look into them a little more. Chuckle.
I do wear a pentagram, a rather large on at that. I've had only one person approach me at the drive through I used to work in, but the time they take there is time and all we had time for was best wishes on each other's hunt. lol ::sigh:: she was so nice. She wanted extra onion ring sauce lol. Most of the time I'm accosted for being spanish and following a european tradition. This amuses me because I choose this path because it chose me really. But alas! the world is filled with simple minds.
As for having my fiancee around, it might be better if I was to be greeted by them first and then have them introduced through me. I must not forget that he is still very new to all of this and at times he's wary. Poor guy....he knew what he was getting into ( I was very upfront) and yet he doesn't chuckle. Oh how I love this guy. I understand I guess.
Christine I must say I value your comments on this forum post. You're a great person to pay attention to a quiet soul such as myself. I find myself coming home sometimes to see if anyone posted, and always am I happy to get yours!! I will light a candle for you and sends loads of positive energy your way!! Thank you |

I forgot to answer to your final comment;
"Plus like I said....going through the motions by myself stunts my energy because I'm always worrying about whether what im doing is right."
I listen to my inner bell, what I mean is when I get a funny feeling that something is wrong, I dont do it. Kinda like wanting to go for a lesurely walk after dinner for example; you get your jacket and just as you start to go you get this sudden feeling; "I want to take a walk but I just have a bad feeling" so you go back home and shortly afterwords it starts to rain. It's when we dont listen to our inner bell,(consince) that we usually get burnt. Always remember the Wiccan rede, "and it harm none, do as thou wilt"
Most of my rituals consist of simply giving thanks to the God/Dess for the blessings I've received, kept very simple.
This sounds kind of weird but my current group found me, The time was right and I met someone and there WaaLaa.
Also keep an eye for people wearing Pegan Jewlery at places like Wal Mart, someone wearing a pentagram for example. If You wear some pegan jewlery someone may approach you, but like I said before keep your guard up; it may be someone with alterier motives. Have your fiance with you. And you should meet a group that way.
Some suggented books are
"Spiral Dance" by Starhawk
"To ride A Silver Broomstick" by Silver Ravenwolf
"Eight Sabbots for Witches" by Jamie and Stewart Farrier
"The Meaning of Witchcraft" by Sibil Leek
and many books by Llewellyn publing
Good luck, mary meet(MM), mary part(MP), and mary meet again(MMA).

I've met people who have done both, and by golly why not? one is a formal (leagal) wedding for thier families, friends who dont understand, and such. Then at a different time they get handfasted, usually with friends and family who do understand.
Usually handfastings are outside and can be downright enchanting indeed.
I wish you the BEST of luck. Just send your wishes and your desires out to the universe, they should manifest when the time is right. Perhaps when you find a coven, they will proform your handfasting, just that they are your friends that you havent met yet!! |

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your input.
I just wanna have some sort of "family" net behind me for my wedding. My Boyfriend is Catholic and so is his fam and so is mine....and handfasting is such a beautiful thing. I just don't know how they'd take it he thinks its a great idea....and that matters cause it shows he doesn't mind what goes down just as long as we're joined. Its just that the Catholic vows won't hold as much weight as Wiccan vows. To me I'm not married until I say those.
And to be able to invite those who know this side of me would make everything all the more worthwhile.
Plus like I said....going through the motions by myself stunts my energy because I'm always worrying about whether what im doing is right.

Take your time, when the time is right you will find a group that is right for you. Dont rush.
It may take months or even years.
If you jump in head first you could find the wrong group or one that take may take advantave of you being fairly new.
A WARNING; some practitioners with ulterior motives have deceived newcomers with promises of magical knowledge, abilities, and training for sexual favors.
Just light a candle and forget about it, and relax, and take it easy. In some cases they may find you, but ALWAYS KEEP YOUR GUARD UP. usually when you least expect it is usually when you find a group.
